Beginners Dressmaking
This dressmaking course is designed for those
who would like to learn how to make their own clothing. You are advised to choose a simple pattern of a skirt or trousers to enable you to learn basic sewing techniques.
For this class no experience of dressmaking is required but you do need to know how to use a sewing machine. We expect you to have taken the ‘Intro to sewing course’ or be at an equivalent standard.
You will learn how: to take correct body measurements and select the correct pattern size, to use a commercial pattern and alter it if required, insert a zip, understand grain line of a fabric, lay out and cut out patterns, pin and tack pieces of garment, sew garments, finish off garments, including hand-stitching.
You are also going to learn techniques such as: waistband, straps, bias binding, button, buttonhole and hems, choose the correct interfacing, and sewing techniques necessary to complete your particular garment.
We have a range of fabric, wool and haberdashery for sale to get you started on your chosen project.
All students will receive a 10% discount on materials purchased for the class.
